Happy Birthday Daphne!

3/7/13

Another hot day in Granada.
Because our nights are so late, so are our mornings. I rose early this morning at 9.30 and the world was still asleep.

Last night we went to a "spectacular" restaurant on the mountainside with a full view of the Alhambra.

We watched in awe as day turned into night, and the moorish palace complex lit up like a jewel on the hill.

The food shut us all up for a good half hour...amazing. We all ate with gusto, sharing tastes of each others dishes. I chose fried eggplant with honey, and a traditional tagine...a local dish

, with bread made in the way it has been made for hundreds of years...OMG...little flattish mounds which were crunchy on the outside and perfectly fluffy in the middle.

There was suckling lamb...the thought of which made me cry for the poor lambsie.

Scallops wrapped in Iberian jamon, a lovely tomato and basil salad, and wines of the waiter's recommendation which have completely spoiled our palate forever.

The bill came to 472 euro...nearly knocked us out. But it was a special occasion...Daphne's birthday.

The restaurant itself was gorgeous, even the dunny was a treat...

Our walk back down the hill was like a trip back in time through the winding narrow cobblestone streets with Arabian doorways and tiled walls, quaint little landings and patios, beautiful streetlights and, further down, Moroccan bazaars and little hookah bars with cosy nooks equipped with the ornate smoking implements at every table. If only they provided hashish. Ha ha.

Of course to remove a good deal of the romance, Angus had his skateboard and had to be told not to ride it on cobblestones as the residents might be woken and not too happy. 😕

But he certainly has sweet moments to make up for it.

Afterward, tony, daphne, Paul and sadie went out clubbing. When the rest of us pikers got back to the caravan park, we realised the keys to the vans were with the others. 😫
I won't bore you with the details of how we got them back. Needless to say, thank you Sadie.

This morning, there are a few sore heads around.😲
Not a good start to the busy day ahead...we are going to the Alhambra, and on a hop on hop off bus trip around the city. I will write and provide pictures later.
I have no idea how the set up of this thing will be...I don't really know what I'm doing. I am and will remain a blog idiot.
